Bars and restaurants usually notice an ice machine problem when the bin is empty in the middle of service. Best Pro repairs modular ice machines on bins and dispensers, undercounter cube machines and flake and nugget machines for bars, restaurants, hotels and convenience stores across the Colorado Springs area.
Why production drops
- Scale. Minerals in the water coat the evaporator plate. Ice sticks, the harvest takes longer and the cubes come out thin or cloudy. Descaling restores production; a water filter slows the buildup.
- Dirty condenser. An air-cooled machine in a hot, greasy kitchen clogs its condenser quickly and makes much less ice.
- Heat. Ice machine capacity is rated at 70°F air and 50°F water. In a 90°F back room, the same machine makes noticeably less ice — sometimes the fix is better ventilation, not a repair.
- Water supply. A clogged filter or a failing inlet valve starves the machine of water, which leaves thin or hollow cubes.
Other common failures
- Ice sheet won’t drop. A harvest problem: a failed hot gas valve, harvest assist motor or thickness sensor.
- Stops before the bin is full. A dirty or failed bin level sensor tells the machine the bin is full.
- Leaks. A clogged drain, a cracked water trough or a bin drain that has backed up.
- No ice at all. A failed water pump, a condenser fan motor, a refrigeration problem or the controller.
Cleaning and sanitizing
Ice is food, and health inspectors look inside ice machines. Slime and mold grow in the water system even when the bin looks clean. Manufacturers generally recommend cleaning and sanitizing at least every six months, more often in a busy or dusty kitchen. We offer cleaning, descaling and sanitizing as a maintenance service.
You get the price before any work starts and a 6-month warranty on parts and labor. For your coolers, see walk-in cooler repair and commercial refrigerator repair.
