An oven that won’t heat, burns every batch on the bottom or stays locked after a self-clean usually has one failed part. Best Pro repairs gas and electric wall ovens and the ovens in ranges in homes across Colorado Springs — from Briargate and Stetson Hills to the Broadmoor area and Old Colorado City — and in Monument and around Fort Carson.
Common oven problems
- Electric oven not heating. Most often a burned-out bake or broil element — you can often see a blister or a break on it. Hidden bake elements sit under the oven floor. If the elements are fine, we test the temperature sensor, the relays on the control board and the thermal fuse.
- Gas oven not heating. Usually a weak igniter that still glows but no longer draws enough current to open the gas valve, so the oven lights late or not at all. Less often the oven gas valve itself has failed.
- Self-clean trouble. Self-clean runs the oven at roughly 800–900°F, and that’s when thermal fuses, control boards and door lock motors tend to fail — sometimes with the door locked shut. Don’t force the door.
- Error codes. A code points to a circuit, not always to the failed part, so we test before replacing anything.
Is it the oven or the altitude?
Colorado Springs sits at about 6,035 feet. Water boils at around 201°F instead of 212°F, liquids evaporate faster and dough rises faster, so sea-level recipes often turn out differently here even in a perfect oven. Before you call about cakes that fall or cookies that spread, check the oven itself: put an oven thermometer in the middle rack, set 350°F and read it after 20 minutes. A few degrees either way is normal. If it’s off by 25°F or more, or the oven takes much longer to heat than it used to, that’s a sensor, igniter or control problem — and a repair. For the recipes, Colorado State University Extension publishes high-altitude baking guides.
Gas ranges and ovens at elevation
Gas burners are tested at sea level, and installation manuals for many ranges list orifice or air-shutter adjustments for high elevations. A burner that isn’t set up right burns with yellow, lazy or lifting flames, leaves soot or smells when it lights. We look at the flames during the diagnostic and tell you if the setup needs attention. If you smell gas, leave the house and call Colorado Springs Utilities from outside.
Price
An element or igniter costs much less than a control board. You get the exact price after the diagnostic, before any work starts — typical ranges are on our prices page.
We repair Bosch, Kenmore, GE, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Samsung, LG, Electrolux, Maytag and other brands. Two ovens in one cabinet? See double oven repair. Burners on top? See range and stove repair. A microwave built in above the oven is covered under microwave and combo oven repair, and high-end brands have their own pages: Wolf, Viking, Dacor.
