A washer that stops full of water or leaks onto the floor needs attention fast — especially in the newer two-story homes in Briargate, Stetson Hills and Northgate, where the laundry room is often upstairs, right above finished rooms. Best Pro repairs front-load and top-load washers, stacked units and laundry centers all over Colorado Springs, in Monument and around Fort Carson, usually on the day you call.
Common washer problems
- Won’t drain or spin. The usual culprit is a clogged drain pump filter — one sock or hair tie is enough — or a failed drain pump. A washer that can’t drain won’t spin. On top-loaders a worn lid switch or shifter can also stop the spin.
- Won’t start or shows an error. On a front-loader, check the door lock first: the board won’t start a cycle until it sees the door locked. After that come the water level sensor, the motor control board and the main board.
- Leaks. A torn door boot on a front-loader, a loose or cracked hose, or a failed tub seal.
- Shaking or walking. Worn shock absorbers or suspension springs, or a cracked drum support (spider) on a front-loader.
- A roar during spin. Nearly always worn tub bearings. Replacing them early saves the seal and the drum.
- Not filling. A failed water inlet valve or clogged inlet screens.
- Musty smell. Mold in the door boot and the pump filter. We clean what can be cleaned and replace a boot that’s torn or stained through.
Colorado Springs specifics
- Freezing in the garage. A washer in an unheated garage or against an outside wall can freeze on a January night: the inlet valve cracks, a hose splits or the pump housing breaks. After a hard freeze, look for drips before the first load, keep the garage door closed and insulate the supply lines if you can.
- Moving day. Front-loaders come with transit bolts that lock the drum for shipping. Left in, they make the washer bang and shake violently on the first spin; left out during a move, the drum can bounce and damage the suspension. Put them back before a PCS move and take them out before the first load in the new home. Hoses connected in a hurry — kinked or cross-threaded — are the other moving-day leak we fix.
Repair or replace?
Drain pumps, door locks, inlet valves and shock absorbers are quick, inexpensive repairs. Bearings on an older front-loader are a bigger job, and if the repair makes little sense next to the price of a new washer, the technician will tell you before you pay for parts. Typical ranges are on our prices page.
We repair Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Maytag, Kenmore, Bosch, Electrolux, Frigidaire and other major brands. Dryer acting up too? See dryer repair. For laundromats, hotels and gyms, see commercial washer repair.
